How to Use Textiles to Create a Global Aesthetic

Textiles are one of the surest ways to bring a global feel to any space. Yet in addition to being cultural symbols, patterns speak to people in very individual ways. This makes textiles a brilliant way to give your space a global aesthetic that feels personal to you.

We created a global feel in this renovated NJ barn with my textile “Blanket Stripe” applied to a chair by Organic Modernism.

Textiles weave in a global element to any design. This large scale stripe is inspired by a classic Mexican beach blanket, and made fresh by screen print and a sophisticated color palette. Printed on a heftier weight to replicate the blanket feel.

The search for an updated mini-print led me to develop this pattern that, even in this tiny format, features a hand drawn look. The effect feels reminiscent of the carved stone passageways in Mogul palaces.

This Tiles design is inspired by the beautiful tile work found in traditional architecture around the world. The color has a light distressed effect, and is printed on a soft natural linen ground.

As global citizens, we crave a different kind of design that captures the unique blend of our personal history and experiences, sometimes across many different cultures.
In every project, I seek to blend the personal and the global to create a timeless style that matches your unique lifestyle and taste.
