Where Color Meets Neutrals

Where color Meets Neutrals

Nothing adds aliveness to a space like balanced infusions of color.

Filling a space with vibrancy while still keeping a classic aesthetic is all about that balance where color meets neutral. Our Chatham Classic project is a beautiful example of how to use color in a refined way to create an elegant yet eye-catching space. Here are four ways we incorporated color to create a timeless yet bright and interesting design.

We chose a beautiful, pale blue-green wall paint that gave the home a stunning presence of liveliness. The shade was soft enough so as not to be overpowering in any way, but it had enough pigment to bathe the space in a truly gorgeous, colorful glow.

We created a bold blue backdrop with these built-in cabinets that gave the whole room a strong sense of color, enhanced by the red accents. The rest of the room is done in neutrals so that the color stands out and draws you in.

Choosing artwork that also contributed a blend of both colors and neutrals was another way that we created a sense of brightness and harmony in the space. Brown and beige to this client spells b-o-r-i-n-g. So we found ways to make sure her space was full of pops of color that would always catch the eye and fill the spirit, while giving the space enough neutrals so it wouldn’t feel overwhelming.

Finally, we included colorful accents, such as the red vase and vibrant pillows, set into a neutral backdrop. When you blend colors with neutrals in an intentional way, colors will “pop” out to the eye in a pleasing way without overwhelming the senses. This makes a space feel relaxing, calming and yet vibrant and joyful.

At Uma Stewart designs we love finding the place where dichotomies come together to perfectly express you.
